About Steve
I was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma. That’s what they tell me, I really don’t remember. Raised in a town of 2,000, Haskell, Oklahoma was a great place to grow up.
My grandfather owned a corner drug store - complete with soda fountain. Dad worked for the railroad and Mary Francis was a stay at home mom. My sister Nancy is six years older than me and taught school for most of her career in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma until her retirement this year.
Janey and I were married in 2001, and she loves music as much as I do. [If there's a poster child for American Bandstand, she'd be it.] We have a puppy named Bella - typical terrier - and a recent grandbaby named Alyssa whose big brother Zach takes pretty good care of her. Our twin neice and nephew Aydin and Brenna are the two funniest people I know, and you’ll be seeing pictures of everyone in my picture gallery. Hope you’ll take a look - I update it every day!
In 1968 when I was 16 years old (do the math) I got my first job in radio at KBIX in Muskogee. After graduation from Haskell High (home of the - no kidding - Haskell Haymakers!) I spent four years at Oklahoma State University and graduated in 1974. Along the way I worked at WKY in Oklahoma City, then after graduation at WFAA in Dallas, KCBQ in San Diego, and to Phoenix in 1980., when I signed KZZP on the air. From there I went to Power 92 (ask me about THAT experience sometime!), then spent two years at Y-95 (which was in the same room KOOL broadcasts from today! -Freaky!), two more years at Sunny 97, and most recently spent 13 years at KNIX. It’s now full circle for me to be with the KOOL KREW, and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks for making me feel so welcome - I love you all and I appreciate it!
