FORMER ATLANTIC RECORDS PRODUCER JERRY WEXLER DIED TODAY AT AGE 91. 

He was instrumental in the careers of Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, and Aretha Franklin, among others. Jerry died earlier today at his home in Sarasota, Florida - he will be missed!  Pictured left to right: Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertigen - Jerry Wexler - and Joe Turner.

IT WAS 31 YEARS AGO TOMORROW WE LOST ELVIS - AND I WAS ON THE AIR AT WHEN THE NEWS FLASH CAME DOWN!

I was working at KCBQ in San Diego - just another normal day - and then the word came down - I was playing Shaun Cassidy when the newsperson gave me the news - we spend a few minutes trying to verify it, because no one, I mean NO ONE could believe it!  I just happened to be running tape that day, but the original is stored away in a myriad of boxes.  Thankfully, Michael Haggerty supplied me a  copy so you can at least hear it for yourself.  I promise to dig up the original next year for you - and Michael!  Here it is, exactly the way it sounded when we found out that Elvis was dead……

    I remember that day like it was yesterday as well. I thought it was some kind of joke. I wished that is was. Steve, thanks for digging up your tapes of that day. I can’t believe it’s been 31 yrs ago. I was 23 years old.
